Some computer issues can be resolved by checking your hard drive for errors. An error-free hard drive can enhance the performance of your computer as well. To check for errors on your hard drive:

   1. In MS Window Vista, Click Start, then click Computer.
      In Windows XP, double-click My Computer.
   2. Right-click the hard drive that you want to check for errors, then click Properties.
   3. Click the Tools tab, then click Check Now under Error-checking. If you are asked for an administrator password, type the correct password.
         1. To repair problems with files and folders automatically after a scan, select Automatically fix file system errors. If you do not select this, the check will not fix the problems detected.
         2. To perform a complete disk check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan attempts to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive. This process can take much longer to complete.
         3. To check for physical and file errors, select Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
   4. Click Start.
